While listening to Michael Hyatt’s Platform yesterday, he helped me make a connection I had not considered before. His book is all about utilizing available resources to create followers who are interested in your product. Your product does not have to be a physical object. In fact, it could be… a speech. It could certainly be argued that a speech that increases even one person’s knowledge has not be wasted, and I’d agree with that. It’s a waste, however, if you could have easily increased the knowledge of two people, but you did not take the time to share with the second person who didn’t make it to your speech that week.
Platform is all about getting your message heard, and as Hyatt mentions, just having a message is no longer enough. It needs a platform to stand on and be heard. While I’d recommend you read his book, here are a few ideas to get your platform started.
Are you making any effort to share your speech beyond just speaking it?
If you have any questions, I recommend that you ask me below. I also recommend that you read Platform: Get Noticed In A Noisy World by Michael Hyatt.
A few months ago, Orchestra released an app with a mission. The app was Mailbox, and the mission was to clean up email inboxes once and for all. This review is a little late, but with good reason. I am able to tell you that it works. Here’s what makes it great:
1) Swipe Controls. This is email built for your phone. To archive, delete, snooze an email, or send it to a list, you simply swipe it left or right. I expect to see this type of control system implemented into many more apps down the road–it just works. Check out Clear for another app you can interact with by swiping.
2) Snooze. This is my favorite feature. By swiping an email to the left slightly, you can tell Mailbox to archive it until a future specified time. This is perfect for emails that aren’t relevant until tomorrow or next week.
3) Unified Inbox. This isn’t a new concept, but it definitely simplifies working with my otherwise fragmented inbox. All your email can be found in one central location, and is the first thing you see when you open the app.
4) Reordering Emails. I found this feature to be rather unusual for an email service, but I believe it comes from the the fact that you are supposed to think of your email as a to-do list. Just drag and drop your emails in the order you’d like!
5) Lists. These are pretty versatile. You’re able to create your own, such as a Pocket-like read later list. You could even use them to organize emails for certain projects.
6) Inbox Zero. This is what Mailbox is all about. The goal of all of these features is to have an empty inbox as frequently as possible so that when there is an email in it, you know it’s new, or important, or relevant to what you’re doing right NOW. If you can accomplish Inbox Zero, you are rewarded with a beautiful new Instagram photo each day. You can see an example of this below. Pressing on the icon reveals the full image.
Mailbox isn’t for everybody–especially people who already have a fully functional system in place for staying in control of their email. If you are not one of those people, however, I highly recommend giving this app a shot. One final disclaimer: Mailbox currently only works with Gmail. Hopefully they will be adding more options in the future, but nothing has been announced yet as far as I’ve seen. And if you already use Mailbox, let me know how your experience has been below!
Should I use Paypal buttons or a full e-commerce solution? The answer to this question really boils down to the budget and scale of your business.
If you are a small business looking to sell a small amount of inventory online, Paypal buttons are an affordable place to start. Some nice features Paypal’s buttons provide are:
That said, if you want to take your online sales to the next level upgrading to a true e-commerce platform is the way to go. Not only will it give you a professional appearance, it opens a whole new set of tools to help you sell more. Here are some reasons to “make the leap” into e-commerce:
In short, paypal is an affordable way to quickly get your products online and allow visitors to purchase them. However, it is in no way a substitute for a full e-commerce solution, which should be the end goal of any growing business wanting to sell large quantities of goods online.
How do I migrate my WordPress site to a new domain or server? As a web developer I found myself faced with this challenge regularly and although the instructions in the WordPress Codex on moving wordpress worked, I found them time consuming and easy to miss something with.
That is when I discovered Duplicator - a free plugin that both migrates & clones a site from one location to another location, painlessly!
All you need to do is follow these 6 easy steps and you are on your way to quickly and perfectly move your site where it needs to go:
I had a calendar problem. Nothing would stick. I used an agenda, a wall calendar, Google Calendar, and more. Eventually, they’d all end up being too busy, messy, and ignored. That is until mid-February 2013… when Sunrise was released for the iPhone. Read More
I first noticed it as I wandered a mall – QR codes on every sign and storefront. All it took was a few bad scans for me to give up on them entirely. QR codes suck. It’s an unfortunate fact, caused by over a year of abuse. It’s not too late to fix this situation, however. First, let’s diagnose the problem.
